They Wish They were Us

They Wish They Were Us

In Gold Coast, Long Island, everything from the expensive downtown shops to the manicured beaches, to the pressed uniforms of Jill Newman and her friends, looks perfect. But as Jill found out three years ago, nothing is as it seems.

Freshman year Jill's best friend, the brilliant, dazzling Shaila Arnold, was killed by her boyfriend. After that dark night on the beach, Graham confessed, the case was closed, and Jill tried to move on.

Now, it's Jill's senior year and she's determined to make it her best yet. After all, she's a senior and a Player--a member of Gold Coast Prep's exclusive, not-so-secret secret society. Senior Players have the best parties, highest grades and the admiration of the entire school. This is going to be Jill's year. She's sure of it.

But when Jill starts getting texts proclaiming Graham's innocence, her dreams of the perfect senior year start to crumble. If Graham didn't kill Shaila, who did? Jill vows to find out, but digging deeper could mean putting her friendships, and her future, in jeopardy.

They wish they were is a mystery book that follows Jill Newman, a girl who studies in an elite high school were rich people go. There is this system were a group of people called the "players" selects young students to make them players as well. For that, they have to go through a bunch of tests to prove that they are worth the place in the players. Obviously, being in this elite group comes with so many advantages, like tests answers, so going through a hard time will pay off. Jill is going through the pops at the time and during one of them, a friend of hers also trying to go through the pops dies. What happened? Who killed her?

This book not only contains mystery but you will also see the characters ' interaction between each other, love, hate, friendship...

It was a great time reading this book honestly, I have to say, I didn't LOVED IT but it was okay, for me I felt like there were some moments in which the interactions between the characters were a bit surreal and even if the end was a huge plot twists it didn't really make sense, I felt like it was a bit rushed and it lacked more background story.

I also felt like the characters were not developed as much and it was really hard to get to know and understand them, there are some of them within the player group that didn't have a part in the story and felt like they were just there but with nothing to do with what was happening. It would have been really interesting to see all of them more involved.

Despite all of this, it was a fast read and it kept me wanting to know more. If you like mystery, high school drama, pretty little liars and gossip girl combined you will love this book.

SPOILERSS!!!!!

Okay lets talk about the ending of this book, no I was absolutely not expecting that it was him, specially because probably like so many of you guys, I LOVED him at the beginning of the book, like the relationship that he had with Jill was beautiful and I wanted them to end up together SO BAD, but anyways, how I felt about this was betrayed haha but I also felt like it was so rushed, you didn't hav  clues from the beginning (or at least I didn't saw them) and the suddenly right at the end there is a lot of information about him and shaila super fast, I didnt even process it and then right at the end they tell you that it was him. The fact that you couldn't really guess it made not like it as much but still, it was good.
