OMG I was sobbing with this amazing heart-hitting story.
It was super truethfull and realistic, it reached my heart all the way.
I am usually not really into memoirs or non-fiction books but this story was so deep and having family member that had gone through it makes also the experience 100 times different. I felt really understood and connected with the main character extremely much.
It was very cultural focused which I loved, I know a lot people find kind of repetitive the food parts and even though there were a lot of them, I loved it since I got to learn such an important and interesting part of Korean culture which is food.
I have to say that I had to put it down at times because it really got to me, however that shows how amazing it was. When I say I was sobbing it’s because I really was.
Overall an amazing story, There are a lot of TW warnings and if you decide to pick it up (which I highly recommend), be aware of them and be prepared to feel your heart ache.

Michelle Zauner is best known as a singer and guitarist who creates dreamy, shoegaze-inspired indie pop under the name Japanese Breakfast. She has won acclaim from major music outlets around the world for releases like Psychopomp (2016) and Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017). Her memoir, Crying in H Mart, was released in 2021.
